After the previous evenings drive through the countryside looking for accommodation we decided we needed to go back and take a wander through the streets of York.
So glad we took the time, what a lovely city this is.
The gardens and shopping precinct are so pretty.
We moved on to Lichfield and found some accommodation in a very schmick B&B turns out it's usually used for weddings.
We found the local Thai restaurant and had some dinner, I will be writing a separate review on both of these places on trip advisor, the B&B will be at the top end of the scale and the Thai although the food was good will be at the other end.......it's all about the service!
Next day we took off to Stratford upon Avon to get some literary culture into us. I love this place and I know the traffic was always bad, but my god, it's almost on a par with London cbd. We did the red bus tour again, I think we're going for a record. And thoroughly enjoyed our day. Off course we found the dirty duck (black swan) and sat and partook in some beverages in the afternoon about 2pm. Then wandered along the Avon to the church where Shakespeare and his family are buried under the alter. Apparently when you died and were buried in the churchyard or cemetery, after 20years you were dug up, your bones were put on a bone fire and your plot was resold, not a bad real estate business! Shakespeare did not want this to happen to him so arranged to be buried inside the church and put a curse on his grave, so the only curse within a church!
These are the alms houses with the grammar school at the end all still in use, the alms houses are for the poor to live in and Shakespeare went to the still operational school.
And of course..................
Next stop Buckinghamshire and Cambridge then oxford in the Cotswolds.
See you soon
