Cliffs of Moher and more

We left Galway in the rain and drove south west to the cliffs of Moher along the wild Atlantic way, these are roads that I had not travelled before as Greg and I took a more inland route. It was wild and the sea appeared treacherous and uninviting, a far cry from the milder seas we had seen 15 months before.

We arrived at the cliffs of Moher to parking areas only ever seen by me previously to be jam packed this was an entirely different experience. The car park had only one fee gate operational, and the number of cars would not have exceeded 20. There were a few coaches, around 6 in the coach parking.

It was quite calm ie no wind to speak of, but quite wet. Kelly and I headed up the walkways to view the cliffs and it was a totally different sight for mr, having previously seen it in sunshine.
We headed back to the visitors centre once we were appropriately drenched and warmed up with a coffee, before heading on our way.

From here we headed to Killkee to start looking for accommodation for the evening. We had our heart set on staying in a pub, by a fire, with a pint! And nowhere to go.

Although very pretty, even in this disgusting weather, Killkee seemed to be overrun with people from a more discerning age group so we moved on to Kilrush, not noticing anywhere appealing we kept going and found ourselves where we needed to be the next day! At the ferry crossing in Kilimer. With nothing there except the ferry, a b&b that had no one home and a small pub in the middle of a sports lunch type function, we kept goin looking for an inn. Another 10kms down the road revealed.........nothing. So we turned around and headed back to Kilrush. Not to be defeated we drove around for a bit and stumbled upon Crottys, traditional pub in the middle of town with a vacant parking space at the front door. This looked promising, although €75 for a twin room for the night it was decided that this was indeed the place.
The room was enormous a queen and a double, a good sized bathroom Windows looking out onto the Main Street and a friendly bar downstairs. This is where we camped for the night.
After a really good nights sleep and a great breakfast we headed back to the ferry, for our journey across the Shannon.

From the other side it was onto Tralee and Dingle where we plan to have a couple of days to wander around this beautiful part of the world.
Alas, the weather could thwart us, Dingle is currently being assaulted by a significant weather event, ell there's nothing for it but to stay inside by the fire with a pint. We may venture out later, time will tell.
