And so to our last hurrah

So we are now up to our last day, some last minute shopping, and last lay on Waikiki beach, and packing!

OMG we bought so much and our bags seem so heavy.... But first dinner, we decided to go to Sarentos Top of the I, this is the 5 star restaurant on the top floor of our block of condos.

A glass lift takes us up to the restaurant.

Now to the food, 5 star fillet mignion with wait for it.........Mac and cheese admittedly it had grated truffle in it.

The salad was lovely, the deserts for those that indulged beautiful, the view to die for, but Mac and cheese please.

And so we sign off yet again, stay tuned for more travels coming up in the next couple of months, Darwin and Bali...........stand by

C&G

The Big Island and a Volcano

Early one morning 3 of us set off on an adventure to the big island to see a volcano.

Picked up at 7 out the front of our hotel, the bus driver was having a bad day, the next 2 stops the scheduled people did not make an appearance! So around the circuit again and we sat and waited outside a hotel for a party of 4, they needed their morning fix of coffee and be buggered if they didn't get it, so lets make everyone else wait, we only have a plane to catch!

Got to the airport and boarded for the 45min trip to the big island, quicker than flying to the Goldie.

Picked up in another bus and we are off, there are 12 of us.

First stop some black sand beaches, similar to those in the northern parts of Bali, with some of the same wildlife!

Then it was off to rainbow falls.

Our next stop was a macadamia factory, picture a golden rough with a macadamia hidden within........I've died and gone to heaven :)

Weston for some lunch where Greg and I hastily purchase a thirst each as due to our assention it was getting a bit chilly for our attire.

After a reasonable lunch of Portuguese bean soup and magma burgers (yes lame I know) we head into the volcanoes national park, volcanoes because there are actually 4. Kilauea is just the one that is currently erupting, it's the smallest.

Craters, this one takes about 4 hours to climb down, walk across and climb out, the photo just does not do it justice, there are actually people in the photo at the bottom.

Lava, lava everywhere

These holes are made when a tree is surrounded and burns slowly, the hole is the result when the lava cools.

A bubble popped!

The lava flow went all the way to the sea.

One of the things I'd been waiting for, a lava tube!

And then as evening started to decend we notice an orange red glow off to our left

An end to a great adventure, back to the airport and back to Waikiki arrival time 10pm

Wow.

Helicopter over paradise

Oki doki...here we are, ready to go...we have our life jackets that are simply impossible to use should we be called upon to open them in the best of circumstances, let alone if we go crashing into Pipeline in forty foot surf..I can say that now we are back on solid land...I know how this ends.

Our hotel and 'that' tropic port! Did I mention this really is Surfers Paradise on steroids...

Then again, around the corner it is beautiful, breathtaking, impossible to reach.

Old airfields form various wars now in disrepair

Majestic harbors and lakes with countless coral reefs

The only resort on the North Shore.....surfing is one of their activities!

The North Shore...when we drove around to here, it was about four foot. Today is another small day,,twenty foot swells!

Weimea Bay

Bonsai Pipeline

The North Shore stretches for some miles, some even more dangerous and unapproachable then Pipeline, Sunset or Weimea Bay. But so aaawsuuuuuume!

Chinook anyone?

We got a Blackhawk down, we got a Blackhawk down....

Pearl Harbour approach

The memorial to the USS Arisona

And back to the airport. All in all what a fabulous way to spend an hour. This is a must do for anyone who is coming over.

Next activity - climbing a volcano......stay tuned!
