Monday 7th July - Blarney, Kilkenny, Waterford, Kilmore Quay
After yet another wonderful Irish breakfast (yes, including black and white pudding), we left 'Cronulla' and went to the Blarney Castle. A nice walk around the gardens and then up, way up, to kiss the Blarney Stone. Apparently, kissing the stone can provide you with the gift of the gab?
To slow Gregory so I had to buy the proper one!
See that gap in the middle at the top, that's the Blarney Stone
Poisonous plant garden! Hmmmm
A little drive through the wonderful Irish country side north to the old town of Kilkenny. The town is situated on a beautiful river, and has one of the most majestic grand castles. In fact, the building is still fully operational, now with government offices etc. the township is quite grand, and befits it's old title. We then moved on down south to Waterford.
Waterford is yet another lovely town. You can see the locals take pride In the the history of their home town. The flowers, the shop fronts and the footpaths all look amazing. And then onto the amazing Waterford Crystal Company. The pieces they produce are amazing. Getting Cath out of here cheaply was near impossible! We were even presented with a magnificent trophy piece. Being way to large to bring home, we duly donated it back to Waterford for another worthy recipient...
We took a trip then down south to the coast, which was on the way towards our ferry port. The township of Kilmore Quay is a working fishing town and steeped in history. Again, smugglers and pirates used it's shores, whilst many of the men who went to sea fro here lost their lives. The town has never forgotten their past or their people. The 'Kehoe Pub' is wonderful. It is literally a museum of the areas past and they have produced a quality booklet showcasing the place. The pub was packed for the World Cup game, so we went back to outr B&B. Turns out, the owners brother in law lives in Ultimo Street, Caringbah!
Tuesday 8th July - Rosslare Harbour, Snowdonia, Llandudno
The car ferry out of Rosslare Harbour to Fishguard was quite smooth and uneventful. A fair few more people on board than on the way over, but quite comfy. We the drove the coastal road, VERY picturesque, all the way north through Wales. They do have so e beautiful beaches and country side. We travelled through the forest and mountain haven of Snowdonia, beautiful again. You know, for a place that supposedly suffers from terrible weather (we haven't sent that yet....), the people come her from miles away to walk the tracks in their absolute masses. We are not quite tht energetic, but it looks good fun?
We started looking for some accommodation, and eventually found it in the holiday resort town of Llandudno. Apparently, in Wales, double 'L' is pronounced haaaaackkkkhhhh...then, the letter 'U' is pronounced as an 'I'. So, knowing that, try pronouncing Llandudno now...Neither can I.....but pretty town with a fantastic lookout!
So off to Liverpool now see you on the flip side!
Yours in travel
