Ring of Kerry

Sunday 6th July - The Ring Of Kerry

Woke up to a flat tyre...no spare is provided in hire cars now. So we ring the emergency number...which is only any good in England. We got hold of another, they put me through to Customer Service, who put me through to the tyre desk...who are only open Monday to Friday! Anyway, we crawled to a servo, put some air in it and made it to a tyre place in Killarney..which was shut. Nothing like Tubbys! But two lots of other people also had flats and had called the guy out. Forty quid later, we were on our way again.

The drive around Kerry and Skellig is stunning and truly a must see. Just look at the photos!

Then we moved on, saying goodbye to Killarney and travelled south to Cork (urgent need for an acrylic nail repairer!). We undertook a guided tour, again on the hop on hop off red bus. Cork is another old sea town, that has experienced wealth and hardship. The magnificent old buildings indicate the heady, profitable days of busy trade, whilst the more recent recessions have taken their toll on the upkeep of many businesses and such. But a great city regardless of her blemishes and one that is moving on regardless.

We then drove the short distance to Blarney......and look where we found the ideal place the stay?

It turned out the owners had been to Sydney a number of times and loved the place, particularly the southern beach suburbs. Who could blame them???? So, they named their place, Cronulla! Where else could we stay.....

To celebrate, we went to the Woolen Mills hotel for dinner. This pub possesses some magnificent old photographs of the area, and the food was great. But the old, original timber bar blew me away! It just called us to sit up at it for a drink!!! So a couple of Irish Coffees did just fine...
