Here we are in Athens, the view from the roof of our hotel is amazing. You can almost reach out and touch the acropolis.
ruins everywhere!
This hotel is mainly occupied by Australians, we have met people from every state.
Below the temple of Nike.
Athens is beautiful, and a lot of fun.
We did a tour of the city, which included the acropolis and the new acropolis museum. The museum is pretty much made of glass, including the floor.
Athens is just a city of ruins that has been built on over and over again. So when they start excavating for a new building, invariably they come across the remenants of one that is oh you know 3000 years old.
When they put the new metro stations in for the Olympics in 2004, they uncovered so much more. So they have preserved it all behind and under glass. This means when you catch a train the stations and the railway line is actually like a museum.
The acropolis was spectacular, it truly defies description and even the photos don't do it justice.
Every restaurant we have been to has been excellent. They are all packed every night, hard to believe they are having economic problems. Really don't think that the tourism is effected.
